    TOURIST VISA

    APPLICATION FOR TOURIST VISA TO URUGUAY

    Those who wish to enter the country on a temporary basis for pleasure or recreation may apply for a tourist visa.

    Depending on your nationality, you might need to apply for a visa in order to enter Uruguay. It doesn’t matter if you are planning to stay for a few hours or for several days, a visa is still required.

    The authorization of the visa is granted by the National Migration Office in Uruguay. Once a visa application has been presented, can takes up to 2 months for the visa to be authorize. Therefore, it is important to apply well in advance in order to receive the visa in a timely manner.

    Term of permanence: In case the visa is granted, the period of allowance to stay in Uruguay will be 90 days, extendable for 90 more days, in accordance with article 13 letter a) of Decree 394/009, of August 24, 2009.

    Entries to Uruguay: The tourist visa will be multiple entries during the term of the visa (see Term of Permanence).

     Validity of the Visa: The validity of the visa will be of 180 days from the granting of the visa (stamped). From the day the visa is issued by the Consulate, you have 180 days to enter Uruguay.

    Requirements for business visa application:

    • Valid passport and in good condition.
    • Visa application form completed and signed.
    • 1 passport photo electronic format JPG
    • Travel tickets or ticket reservation (round trip).
    • Reservation of hotel or other proof of accommodation.
    • Proof of income duly accredited that can justify the maintenance and accommodation in Uruguay by the term of stay declared by the applicant.

    The applicant should have a contact person in Uruguay, or a confirmed hotel reservation. You should provide complete contact information, including telephone number and address. It is very important to provide correct information, as the Migration Office will contact this person or hotel to confirm the given information. If the Migration Office cannot reach the given contact, or if the hotel reservation is not confirmed, the visa can be denied.

    Thereafter, you will be appointed an interview at the Consulate in Stockholm for an interview. If the documents were sent by e-mail, you should bring the originals to the meeting. Once the interview has been held and the Consulate has received a complete application, we will send the visa application to the National Migration Office in Uruguay for their consideration. You will be informed as soon as a decision has been taken regarding the visa. If the visa is granted, you will be asked to send your passport by post in order to issue the visa into it.

    The visa fee is only paid if the visa is granted. We will contact you and provide you with all necessary details to make the payment.

    BUSINESS VISA

    BUSINESS VISA INFORMATION

    Those who wish to enter the country to conduct business activities, or for investment or commercial exchange with Uruguayan companies or with headquarters in the Republic, or public agencies, may apply for a business visa.

    The authorization of the visa is granted by the National Migration Office in Uruguay. Once a visa application has been presented, can takes up to 2 months for the visa to be authorize. Therefore, it is important to apply well in advance in order to receive the visa in a timely manner.

    Term of permanence: In case the visa is granted, the period of allowance to stay in Uruguay will be 90 days, extendable for 90 more days, in accordance with article 13 letter a) of Decree 394/009, of August 24, 2009.

      invites the visa applicant. It must have the
      letterhead and signed by the responsible authority of the
      company, headquarters or public agency. The note must contain
      the personal data of the person in charge of the company who
      invites the visa applicant.
    • Letter from of the company for which the applicant of the visa works, indicating company name and business line or field. Should include the applicant’s work position at the company.

    Thereafter, you will be appointed an interview at the Consulate in Stockholm for an interview. If the documents were sent by e-mail, you should bring the originals to the meeting. Once the interview has been held and the Consulate has received a complete application, we will send the visa application to the National Migration Office in Uruguay for their consideration.     WORKING VISA

    WORKING VISA INFORMATION

    Those who intend to develop a work activity in Uruguay may apply for a work visa.

    The authorization of the visa is granted by the National Migration Office in Uruguay. Once a visa application has been presented, can takes up to 2 months for the visa to be authorize. Therefore, it is important to apply well in advance in order to receive the visa in a timely manner.

    Term of permanence: The term of stay in the country will depend on the migratory subcategory that corresponds after entering in Uruguay, permanent or temporary resident, as provided in articles 10 and 11 of Decree No. 394/009 of August 24, 2009. For the purpose of managing your residence process, will have a period of 30 days from the date of entry into the country.

     Entries to Uruguay: The work visa will be a single entry.

    Validity of the Visa: 60 days from the date that the visa is granted (stamped).

    Requirements for business visa application:

    • The applicant must be over 18 years of age.
    • Valid passport and in good condition.
    • Visa application form completed and signed.
    • 1 passport photo electronic format JPG
    • Letter – Note of Promise of work extended by company or institution duly registered in Uruguay, in accordance with the national regulations in force. This should include the company’s data, information on the branch of activity, registration number in DGI and PBS, as well as personal data and signature of the company’s legal representative.

    In the case of working visas after arriving to Uruguay the applicant should request for a Temporary or Permanent Residency depending in each individual case. The applicant should prepare additional documentation (see instructions for Temporary / Permanent Residency) that should be legalized before his/her departure and presented in Uruguay to give continuity to its procedure.

    Thereafter, you will be appointed at the Consulate in Stockholm for the signature of the relevant certificates for the Residence process.

    If the documents were sent by e-mail, you should bring the originals to the meeting. Once the interview has been held and the Consulate has received a complete application, we will send the visa application to the National Migration Office in Uruguay for their consideration.     STUDY VISA

    STUDY VISA INFORMATION

    Students who wish to study, apply for scholarships or internships in official, governmental or exchange programs in authorized institutions or authorized by the corresponding official bodies may apply for study visa.

    The authorization of the visa is granted by the National Migration Office in Uruguay. Once a visa application has been presented, can takes up to 2 months for the visa to be authorize. Therefore, it is important to apply well in advance in order to receive the visa in a timely manner.

    Term of permanence: Is 30 days. In order to manage your temporary residence, you will have a period of 30 days from the date of entry into the country.

     Entries to Uruguay: The study visa will be a single entry.

    Validity of the Visa: 180 days from the date that the visa is granted (stamped).

    Requirements for study visa application:

    • The applicant must be over 18 years of age.
    • Valid passport and in good condition.
    • Visa application form completed and signed.
    • 1 passport photo electronic format JPG
    • Proof of income duly accredited that can justify the maintenance and accommodation in Uruguay for the period of stay declared by the applicant.
    • Letter/note of registration of the institution public or private, educational center where the studies will take place, benefit scholarship or develop the internship. The same must be letterhead and signed by the legal representative of the institution and must contain the personal data of the representative, as well as the registration number or rating of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

    In the case of study visa after arriving to Uruguay the applicant should request for a Temporary or Permanent Residency depending in each individual case.

    CONGRESS, CONVENTION AND SEMINARIES VISA

    CONGRESS, CONVENTIONS AND SEMINAR VISA INFORMATION

    This type of visa may be requested by persons who accredit an invitation by organizers of national or international events of public interest that are held in Uruguay.

    The authorization of the visa is granted by the National Migration Office in Uruguay. Once a visa application has been presented, can takes up to 2 months for the visa to be authorize. Therefore, it is important to apply well in advance in order to receive the visa in a timely manner.

    Term of permanence: On the event that the visa is granted, the period of stay in the country will be 90 days, renewable for a further 90 days, in accordance to article 13 letter a) of Decree No. 394/009, dated August 24, 2009.

     Entries to Uruguay: This type of visa will be multiple entries during the term of the visa.

    Validity of the Visa: 180 days from the granting of the visa (stamped). You have 180 days to enter the country from the date you submit the stamp.

    Requirements for business visa application:

    • Valid passport and in good condition.
    • Visa application form completed and signed.
    • 1 passport photo electronic format JPG
    • Travel tickets or ticket reservation (round trip).
    • Reservation of hotel or other proof of accommodation.
    • Invitation letter from the event organizer. In the case of institutions or private organizations, the letter must include the profile of the institution and details of the event to be carried out, as well as the registration or authorization number of the named institution registered at the Ministry of Education and Culture. Likewise, it must contain the information of the head of the institution or organization.
    • Document proving the character of public interest of the event.

    Thereafter, you will be appointed an interview at the Consulate in Stockholm for an interview. If the documents were sent by

    e-mail, you should bring the originals to the meeting. Once the interview has been held and the Consulate has received a complete application, we will send the visa application to the National Migration Office in Uruguay for their consideration. You will be informed as soon as a decision has been taken regarding the visa. If the visa is granted, you will be asked to send your passport by post in order to issue the visa into it.

    FAMILY REUNIFICATION VISA

    FAMILY REUNIFICATION VISA INFORMATION

    Those who wish to reunite with a family member -in accordance Article 10 of Law No. 18.250 of January 6, 2008- may apply for a family reunification visa. The reunification may be requested by parents, spouses, single children under or over age with disability.

    Reunification can be done with permanent resident family member or resident in process, provided proof of income has been submitted legally accredited before the National Directorate of Migration and that the relative in Uruguay has lent his express consent. This visa does not it has cost for the applicant.

    Term of permanence: 30 days. In order to manage the residence, the applicant will have a term of 30 days from the date of entrance to the country.

    Entries to Uruguay:
    The family reunification visa is for single entry.

    Validity of the Visa: The validity of the visa will be of 180 days from the granting of the visa (stamped). From the day the visa is issued by the Consulate, you have 180 days to enter Uruguay.

    Requirements for FAMILY REUNIFICATION visa application:

    • Valid passport and in good condition of conservation of Applicant of the Uruguayan visa and identity document of the relative in Uruguay with whom he will reunite;
    • Document issued by the competent authority accrediting the link with the relative to be reunited (Minutes or Departures of Birth or Marriage, as applicable) apostille or duly legalized.
    • In case of minors under 18 years of age, you must present authorization of their legal representatives to reside in Uruguay.
    HUMANITARIAN VISA

    HUMANITARIAN VISA INFORMATION

    Will be able to request humanitarian and emergency visa those persons who have a well-founded and duly just cause accredited to enter Uruguay, such as: medical treatment, attendance at a judicial hearing, death or health situation of a family member or friend and, those cases that were authorized by the authority competent.

    Term of permanence: 30 days. In order to manage the residence, the applicant will have a term of 30 days from the date of entrance to the country.

    Entries to Uruguay: The humanitarian and emergency visa is for single entry.

    Validity of the Visa: The validity of the visa will be of 60 days from the granting of the visa (stamped).

    Requirements for HUMANITARIAN VISA application:

    • Valid passport and in good condition of conservation of Applicant of the Uruguayan visa and identity document of the relative in Uruguay with whom he will reunite;
    • Documentation that reliably demonstrates the reason for the requesting entry into the country, as required for each case.
